When people ask me what I do for a living, my short answer is "anything that puts me behind a mic!" The long answer is I do TV and radio hosting, bilingual commercial voice overs, Spanish dubbing, corporate narrations, event emceeing, podcasting, and a tiny little bit of singing. I'm so grateful I get to do all these fun things and call it work, but what's most amazing to me, is knowing that this career path chose me when I was just a teenager. At age 16 I was given the opportunity to host a national TV and radio show in my hometown of Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Back then, I had no idea microphones and cameras would become my work tools for decades to come.
After moving to the US in 2003, I completed a degree in Broadcast Journalism from Brigham Young University and was hired as a TV and radio host/producer for a local Hispanic station in Salt Lake City, Utah. This was my very first experience working with a US company reaching the Spanish speaking community, and what a great first experience it was! A few years later, I had the opportunity to advance my skillset by taking on a corporate position as Zions Bank’s Multicultural Marketing and PR Coordinator. Overseeing multimedia campaigns and community events at this level earned me valuable management and big picture marketing skills. Right before shifting gears from corporate America to the nonprofit sector, I became Miss Utah Latina 2010. Earning this title strengthened my sense of community and leadership; values I treasure even more that the beautiful crown I got. Despite all of these career shifts and new roles, I never stopped doing freelance on-camera and voice over work. In 2014, I decided it was time to become a full-time voice over actor. Since then I've done training in a variety of field-specific niches, such as acting, singing, improv comedy, and of, course voice acting. A year later, I launched Female Voice Acting. Since becoming a full-time VO actor, I have hosted several TV and radio shows, created hundreds of educational narrations for schools across the US, and continued to do commercial voice over work for numerous clients. Notably, including household names such as: Target, Amazon, Walgreens, Burger King, Kellog’s Eggo Waffles, doTERRA, Telemundo, Univision, Honda, and many more. |
In 2020, I won a SOVAS Voice Arts Award in the category of “Outstanding Spoken Word or Story Telling - Best Spanish Performance” for my collaboration in the production of Pablo Neruda’s poem “Para Que Tú Me Oigas.” This was followed by securing a position as a voice acting instructor with the University of Utah’s Lifelong Learning Program.
While my road to voice acting was short, the journey that built up my rich and unique skill set was long and varied. I’m a seasoned and respected voice over artist and teacher. I know the in’s and out’s of my profession, and you can trust me with your project. After all, you can't spell Michelle without a mic! |
In case you're wondering "What does her Spanish accent sound like?"
Though I was born in Honduras, I deliver voice overs and narrations in neutral Latin American Spanish. A neutral Spanish accent helps your brand have successful advertising campaigns that allow you to reach and connect with a broader Hispanic audience, regardless of their nationality.
